    USA po wojnie secesyjnej. Mieszkańcy prowincjonalnego miasteczka Abilene w stanie Kansas nie potrafią dojść ze sobą do porozumienia w sprawie podziału ziemi. W końcu zostaje wytyczona linia, biegnąca przez środek osady, która oddziela tereny należące do rolników od tych, na których swoje stada wypasają hodowcy bydła. Dzięki niej udaje się zbudować kruche porozumienia między obiema grupami osadników. Pokój zakłócają jednak nowi plantatorzy, którzy osiedlają się po stronie miasta przeznaczonej dla hodowców bydła. Między rolnikami, którzy chcą w spokoju uprawiać ziemię i cenią stałość, a kowbojami, którzy marzą o bezkresnych preriach dla swojego bydła, wybucha wojna. Szeryf (Edgar Buchanan) próbuje pogodzić zwaśnionych mieszkańców.

    Pracująca w nowojorskiej dyskotece hostessa Norah (Juliet Prowse) poznaje atrakcyjnego Larry'ego (Sal Mineo). Nie wie, że mężczyzna ma problemy z nawiązywaniem relacji z powodu dramatycznych przeżyć z dzieciństwa. Niebawem zaczyna prześladować kobietę. Nęka ją telefonami, śledzi i składa nieprzyzwoite propozycje. Przerażona Norah prosi o pomoc stróża prawa (Jan Murray). Okazuje się, że policjant, podobnie jak Larry, jest uzależniony od pornografii.
